Phillip E Lavender (G3RAN)
1930 - 2014.

We are sad to report that Phil passed away on Wednesday, 23rd July 2014 in Poole Hospital.

Phil was a member of the Bournemouth Radio Society, Flight Refuelling Amateur Radio Society and Newbury and District Amateur Radio Society. He was an enthusiastic club member and for many years controlled the very successful SSTV net – on the air every Monday at 20:00 - for BRS and FRARS members calling on 144.525MHz. However, due to ill health, he has not been able to join the net or attend club meetings for some time.

Friends will remember how Phil was always on hand to help with computer problems. He was interested and diverted by the difficulties which infuriated many of us and he managed to solve most of them too. We are all very grateful for his past help and advice.

Phil joined the RAF in 1949. He met Norman (G3UXR) when they were both stationed at RAF Swinderby and they have been firm friends since those early days. Phil’s work was in the control tower of RAF Swinderby, Bomber Command; air training on Wellington bombers. In civilian life Phil was Sales Manager at Blue Circle Cement in London and later in Newbury.

We are all very sad to hear of Phil’s death and our sympathy and condolences go to Pat, her sons Martin and David and their families.

The Cremation ceremony will be held on Wednesday 6th August at 1:00pm at Poole Crematorium.
